Luci had 12 pups yesterday! Unfortunately 3 little girls were still born. The remaining 9 pups are all doing well and nursing a lot and keeping Luci busy! I will be posting their individual pictures and weights today so check back later under the 2016 litter!

Almost there! We are all excited for the pups arrival!
Below on the left is the picture from today. On the right is the picture of her on day 62 last year. I tried to get her in the same position but that is pretty hard haha! Her belly is hanging really low in comparison to her normal size in the 3rd picture. Survey Results! 45% think picture B is bigger 45% think picture A is bigger 10% think pictures are the same Picture A was of Luci this pregnancy Day 59. Picture B was Luci day 62 last year, 3 days before giving birth to 11 pups. Looks like she will have the same amount this year too! Below is a short video trying to capture puppy movement. I have been taking Luci's temperature twice daily. It will usually dip to below 99 or 98 before she goes into labor. She doesn't seem to be going into labor yet but she is having "Braxton Hicks" type contractions. Her stomach gets very hard and she is a bit uncomfortable but she can sleep through them. Her muscles are getting ready for the big event soon to come! Tomorrow I will add a new picture on her day 62 to compare to her day 62 last year! Luci is getting pretty big. When she sits, her hips look wide and her belly almost touches the floor! She is now losing her hair on her belly so the pups can get to food easier. The pups are all developed and now putting on weight before birth. Luci will begin her 8th week of pregnancy on Saturday and we should start to see lots of movement from the puppies as they get in position for birth!
Picture on left from last week and the right from today. The second set of pictures on the left is from today and the right Luci is in her 3rd week of pregnancy. What a difference! Luci will start her 7th week of pregnancy on Saturday! She is getting uncomfortable and moves around lot groaning. Poor girl! Picture on left is from last week and the right from today. She has dropped a bit more!
Image on left is from last week and the right from today. She is definitely bigger! When she is sleeping we can feel and see a little movement and we all get so excited!
The picture on the left is from last week and the one on the right is from today. She is getting close to her halfway mark!
CWe are pleased to announce we have a new four legged family member! Meet "High Punching Jet" aka Punch! He is a pure bred registered Quarter Horse. He is 10 years old and used to be a really good barrel racer. He loves getting attention and being fed his sweet grain twice a day. He hasn't been ridden in a while so he needs a bit of work to get him back into a riding routine.
Luci and Cisco aren't happy that he is here and they are still trying to figure him out. Neither one has seen a horse before. I think they think he is a giant dog as when Punch looks at them, they take it as a challenge on their property and they start to look like Cujo. It will be around a week or two for the horse and the dogs to settle down around each other. Punch doesn't like dogs though. Today, when the dogs came close to the fence or would walk along the side the fence, he would either throw his head at them and snort or bunny hop buck and run while throwing his head and snorting to get them farther from the fence. It worked as it has scared the dogs when he does that and they bark at him from farther away. Barking at him doesn't seem to bother him though. Just when they enter his comfort zone. The dogs need to know where that is so when we take him out for lunging and riding, they don't get kicked. |
